On Holy Wednesday, the Sacrament of Holy Unction is celebrated.
The Reading of the 12 Passion Gospels
On Holy & Great Friday, a solemn procession is held with the "plascanica" (winding sheet), which is a cloth embroidered with the image of Christ prepared for burial. It represents the body of Jesus wrapped in a burial shroud.
The priest carries the plascanica, as the faithful follow, three times around the church. It is then placed in the center of the church on what represents the tomb of Christ.
On Holy & Great Friday, we glorify Christ's passion, death and resurrection. We see a comparison betwen the love of God and the cruelty of man. On this night, we lament our own sinfulness.
